Spectacular wall of water made of ring mesh

Planned in 2017 and opened in spring 2020, the new Toranomon Hills Business Tower in Minato enriches the cityscape of Tokyo. The 36-story office tower is now home to 1,033,335 sq. ft. of large-scale office space and another 81,806 sq. ft. of commercial space for shops and restaurants.

The German architect Christoph Ingenhoven (Ingenhoven architects) was responsible for the exterior design, meant to harmonize with the Toranomon Hills Mori Tower, which is in the immediate vicinity. Masamichi Katayama (Wonderwall) was responsible for the interior design of the office and commercial space. The main focus was to combine modern elements with the history and traditions of the surrounding Toranomon district.

The lobby of the Toranomon Hills Business Tower also has a modern flair. A spectacular wall of water with a height of 28.2 ft. and a width of 8.9 ft. made of alphamesh 12.0 stainless steel ring mesh was installed there. The water flows along the finely woven ring mesh down into a catch basin in which floor spotlights are installed, which additionally highlight the water feature from below. The combination of water, light and ring mesh creates wonderful flowing and glossy effects on the wall of water, which captivate the visitors.

And yet it is not only the visual aspect that stands to gain from this impressive arrangement. The interior climate also benefits, as the increased humidity and the gentle lapping creates a pleasant atmosphere.
