Grand Egyptian MuseumA world landmark wears alphamesh

After more than two decades of planning, one of the most significant cultural projects of our time opened on November 1, 2025: the Grand Egyptian Museum in Cairo – spectacularly located right next to the Pyramids of Giza.

The world’s largest archaeological museum combines thousands of years of history with contemporary architecture of the highest standard. It is here that alphamesh was able to become part of an extraordinary interior design concept.

Scenography meets material innovation

In collaboration with the renowned Stuttgart-based scenography studio Atelier Brückner, an architectural highlight was created in the heart of the museum:
the ceiling of the central exhibition hall, where, among other things, the legendary mask of Tutankhamun is on display.

Covering an area of around 700 m², alphamesh 7.0 Bronze makes a powerful design statement. As a shimmering, spatial structure, the metal mesh lends the room depth, rhythm, and a special atmosphere.

Light, space, and history in balance

The finely structured metal mesh reacts sensitively to light and perspective. It creates transparency and presence at the same time – an architectural connection between modern museum architecture and the monumental history of ancient Egypt.

The result is a spatial experience that not only guides visitors, but also touches them emotionally.

Architecture with cultural appeal

This project impressively demonstrates what alphamesh stands for:
tailor-made solutions, material precision, and the ability to help shape architecture at the highest international level.

A world landmark wears alphamesh.
And thus becomes part of a new architectural narrative.

alphamesh safety systems in the Brühl City Library

The Brühl City Library relies on state-of-the-art safety technology and elegant design: the information desk is reliably protected by a U-shaped night closure made of alphamesh safety systems.

Around 30 m² of alphamesh 12.0 stainless steel mesh is used, which blends in perfectly with the architecture. During the day, the system disappears invisibly into the ceiling, preserving the open and inviting character of the library.

In the evening, the robust ring mesh curtain lowers and is securely locked with the help of electromagnets embedded in the counter. This solution protects the information desk from unauthorized access and at the same time provides a stylish aesthetic.

Laser sensors installed in the ceiling ensure maximum safety. These prevent injuries by automatically stopping the system as soon as people or objects are detected during ascent or descent.

With this innovative concept, alphamesh combines design, functionality and safety at the highest level.

On 23rd November 2022, the redesigned Celadon Gallery was reopened at the National Museum of Korea in Seoul. The Sculpture and Crafts section showcases many of the world’s finest examples of Buddhist sculpture, metalwork and ceramics, as well as the traditions and astonishing expertise of Korean artisans.
In a permanent exhibition, approximately 250 ceramics pieces with a special, jade-green glaze (celadon) are displayed, which originate from as far back as the 10th century (Goryeo dynasty). For the design of the exhibition space, we draped the walls with our curtains (roughly 205 m2), made of matte alphamesh 12.0 stainless steel, and subtly illuminated them. They give the space a special, calming atmosphere and invite you to pause and spend some time.

“Gehry Tower” as the centerpiece of the newly created LUMA cultural center in Arles
After 7 years of construction, “The Tower”, a 56 meter high building designed by star architect Frank Gehry, was opened as the core element of the new LUMA cultural center in Arles, in the south of France. The well-known German industrial designer Konstantin Grcic was also recruited to design the “Open Space”. In collaboration with Atelier CTJM from Arles, the two upper floors were conceptually linked and the industrial character of the original building was preserved. By using alphamesh metal curtains as well as special lighting technology, certain areas were cleverly separated and a kind of theater space was created. Both floors also benefit from impressive views of the Camargue, the Alpilles as well as the historic old town in Arles.

One of the fastest growing regions in Sydney is Parramatta City, an administrative district in Outer Sydney, which is a direct extension of the port. The central square in Parramatta City is Parramatta Square, which comprises a multilevel retail district and seamlessly connects the square with a train station and, on the ground floor, with an atrium, lobbies and office towers above. The towers are the new architectural highlight and landmark of the square.
The offices in the Parramatta Square 4 building are bathed in light and are bright thanks to the continuous glass facade. As wall cladding in the darker corridors, curtains made of polished alphamesh 7.0 bronze ring mesh were used over an area of 135 m². The metal curtains, draped one above the other, run in wave shapes along the corridor walls. The indirect lighting of the curtains creates a warm bronze tone in the hallways, which are otherwise dominated by concrete and tiles.

In the heart of Washington D.C., right on New York Avenue, close to numerous shops and restaurants, the luxury hotel Conrad Washington was built in 2018 under the direction of the Swiss architecture firm Herzog & de Meuron. The US design studio Rottet Company was responsible for the interior design, which gave the Conrad a reserved, minimalist ambience in the tradition of the colonial shaker style. The heart of the hotel is the light-flooded, high-rise atrium, which was thought of as a contemporary interpretation of the classic, early American marketplace. It allows guests to move between the various rooms and the opulent outdoor terraces.
The view from the lobby overlooking the various floors of the open atrium is almost endless, where daylight shines through round skylight windows. Particularly impressive is the curtain made of polished 12.0 stainless steel ring mesh, which meanders across an area of approximately 1600 m² over the floors of the atrium. In doing so, it bathes the atrium in a warm, bronze-colored light and at the same time sweeps over the open corridors of the winding floor levels so that they move elegantly into the background.

Spectacular wall of water made of ring mesh

Planned in 2017 and opened in spring 2020, the new Toranomon Hills Business Tower in Minato enriches the cityscape of Tokyo. The 36-story office tower is now home to 1,033,335 sq. ft. of large-scale office space and another 81,806 sq. ft. of commercial space for shops and restaurants.

The German architect Christoph Ingenhoven (Ingenhoven architects) was responsible for the exterior design, meant to harmonize with the Toranomon Hills Mori Tower, which is in the immediate vicinity. Masamichi Katayama (Wonderwall) was responsible for the interior design of the office and commercial space. The main focus was to combine modern elements with the history and traditions of the surrounding Toranomon district.

The lobby of the Toranomon Hills Business Tower also has a modern flair. A spectacular wall of water with a height of 28.2 ft. and a width of 8.9 ft. made of alphamesh 12.0 stainless steel ring mesh was installed there. The water flows along the finely woven ring mesh down into a catch basin in which floor spotlights are installed, which additionally highlight the water feature from below. The combination of water, light and ring mesh creates wonderful flowing and glossy effects on the wall of water, which captivate the visitors.

And yet it is not only the visual aspect that stands to gain from this impressive arrangement. The interior climate also benefits, as the increased humidity and the gentle lapping creates a pleasant atmosphere.
